CumulativePlus is a calculation mode available to customers with the Advanced Tier app edition. It gives you full control over estimates across your spaces. Instead of relying on Jira’s native fields for calculations, CumulativePlus uses TeamTime’s functionality to provide detailed information about who added the estimates, when they were added, and how much time was logged.
Why use the CumulativePlus mode?
Currently, Jira’s native Original Estimate field only stores a single numeric value. While you can track changes to this field via the history, the process is inconvenient. When multiple team members work on the same work item at different stages and each needs to contribute their own estimate, several issues arise:
-
Team members may incorrectly calculate the total estimate because they have to mentally add their value to the existing estimate.
-
There’s a risk of accidentally deleting the existing estimate when updating the field.
-
Even after multiple estimates have been added, it’s impossible to tell which portion of the total belongs to each team member.
The CumulativePlus calculation mode fully addresses these challenges. Rather than depending on the rigid Original Estimate field, TeamTime provides its own estimate functionality. It stores detailed information about which user provided each estimate. The system then uses these individual estimates to calculate the work item’s total estimate, which is displayed in your reports.
Note: When you switch to CumulativePlus, all estimate information will be stored within the app. The Original Estimate field will be ignored for report calculations and will not be updated.
Upon activating CumulativePlus mode in a selected space, new features will be available to you:
-
-
Co-assignees: Overcomes Jira’s single-assignee limitation by letting multiple team members contribute individual estimates to a single work item.
-
Estimate Log: Enhances tracking transparency by recording a complete, time-stamped history of every estimate submitted into the work item.
-
How the logic works
In CumulativePlus, similarly to Cumulative, the estimates and the time spent are calculated via summing the work item’s own estimates and time spent metrics with its child work items' metrics. Unlike Cumulative calculation mode, CumulativePlus uses own TeamTime’s functionality to track the estimates instead of Jira’s native Original Estimate field.
Whether you’re checking the mini‑report or generating a high‑level report via the app’s page, the app will calculate the following metrics:
|
Metric |
Calculation Logic |
|---|---|
|
Estimate |
Own estimate + Sum of all child work item estimates. |
|
Time Spent |
Own worklogs + Sum of all child work item worklogs. |
|
Remaining |
Estimate − Time Spent |

Ratio |
0% means work hasn't started or no hours have been logged yet. 100% means the hours logged exactly match your original estimate. Over 100% means the work has taken longer than originally estimated. |
